Here we go – gearing up for the Inlet Theatre show on May 7. Also the upcoming White Rock Elks hall Johnny Cash series – Apr 16, May 19, and June 18. If the format is popular, we hope to make it a continuing series showcasing the wealth of talent in the area. The first White Rock Elks hall show on Mar 5 was a sellout and had one of the most fun-loving crowds ever – what a pleasure to do a show for folks like them! Thanks gang! The tours across Canada will continue as well. The first series of concerts is now being planned to play the lower mainland of BC, and Vancouver Island – will keep you informed as to the details.
It is April 11 and time to review the Inlet Theatre Show in Pt. Moody on April 7. We got caught in construction hold-ups and got to the theatre 15 min late, but with a bit of high-speed setting up, we were ready to go at the posted time of 7 pm. There were 139 people at the show – even though it wasn’t full, the staff said it was the largest crowd this year. Late in the first set (when Roy Orbison was performing) there was a technical problem that took 20 minutes to fix. In order to stay on schedule, we had the intermission 20 minutes early, and then we had a longer second set. We did manage to finish at the appointed time, and the audience was very understanding. We thank them for their support in the face of difficulties that stopped the show for the first time in over 600 performances. Beyond that, we thank them for being such a receptive and fun-loving group, and helping to make us feel at home. Also thanks to Sarah who looked after the booking of the show and the accompanying details, and to Levi who provided the technical expertise. It is a beautiful venue, and we look forward to returning in the future.
Here is the latest – Last night (Saturday, Apr 16) was the first in a series of Johnny Cash TV Show Tributes at the White Rock Elks Hall. The show was sold out 10 days before the event – even though they held it in their bigger room downstairs. The guests included Neil Convey, Dandelion Wine, and Jess Lee. The audience was enthralled with Neil’s pure classic country voice, Dandelion Wine’s awesome harmony, and Jess Lee’s dead-on impression of Merle Haggard. The show ran a half hour overtime, but no one left and they were extremely responsive, for which we are eternally grateful. Our thanks goes out to the terrific help and co-operation of the Elks Staff – especially to Ray Fynes and Ray Francour. Also a big thanks to Rob Nelson for providing excellent sound, and Jeri and Joanne for all the help promoting the show, Phil Davies for providing the stage lighting, and all the volunteers who helped with the packing up afterwards. The second episode will be on Thursday, May 19, and the third episode will be on June 18 – each show featuring a new show with different guests. Hope to see you then
